Amanda Kludt from Gridskipper has brought it to our attention that she's created a Google map to show petless New Yorkers where to get their puppy fix.

Puppy_map

I'm half tempted to create a similar resource for the greater Boston area. We're big fans of the off-leash dog park near Union Square, and of Charles Street.

Where do you go, dear readers?

Too many puppies

by oboreruhito, concerning the matter of Kittens, Puppies

I can't imagine why this cat is so upset –  it's just a small army of adorable puppies. At least she didn't flip out on them.

Your coworker's new puppy

The puppy does not need to be fluffy. It does not need to wear an undignified hat or something. It just needs to smile very slightly, and let its ears fold over just so.

(The puppy's name is Kino. Photograph courtesy of monkeycat!.)

Dogs and cats living together

by C. Fernsebner, concerning the matter of Kittens, Puppies

Connellsville Daily Courier: A cat named Zoey has adopted a puppy. The pug runt is reportedly getting along fine with a litter of kittens. "Zoey has not stopped with just nursing the puppy, either. She will also bathe and clean him just like he was one of her kittens."

Puppy vs. lion

by oboreruhito, concerning the matter of Kittens, Puppies

UPDATE: Greg at vMix shares with us a video of Koza. Warning: There is sadness in that link that is also explained after the jump. :(

SignOnSanDiego, via Fark: The puppy wins, for now.

SAN PASQUAL VALLEY – Koza, a 10-week-old lion cub, and Cairo, a slightly younger but at the moment larger Italian mastiff, are being housed together for one or two hours at a time in Koza's room in the park's nursery.

Cairo, an Italian mastiff puppy, was introduced as a playmate to 10-week-old Koza, a lion cub whose twin died, at the San Diego Wild Animal Park. Playtime included sharing a bit of food, Cairo nipping on Koza's ear, some frolicking and some quiet time.

Tuesday morning, when the two were allowed to mingle, the energetic puppy sniffed and then jumped all over the lion cub for about a minute, then spent the next hour far more interested in a stick he busily gnawed.

But yesterday, the two frolicked for more than 15 minutes, with Cairo nibbling on Koza's ears, which the cub seemed not terribly happy about.

Unfortunately, an adult female lion mauled Koza on April 17, and she was euthanized. This little page now becomes a bit of a memorial. Thank you, little lion.

My Trip to the Game Developers Conference

by gus andrews, concerning the matter of Ponies, Puppies, Technological Advances

I went to the game developers Conference it was fun. You wouldnt think so because some games might have guns and those games are mostly for big Boys but there were a lot of cute games there especially the ones made by people from schools. Someone even turned a game about fighting into a different game about hamsters.

There was Dofus, thats a roll playinggame it is from France and it was the most popular and so it won the Audience award. Nintendogs have the best technology and immolations so they gave them prizes for that.

My friend Jess liked the glow-worm game. I wanted to play the game about clouds but there was a line. Also if you like to spell things, like I do there was a game about spelling or if you like fairytales there was a game about that.

I made a lot of new friends like Julia who makes really really really REALLY funnie cartoons and games [Ed note: imagine Bill Plympton was a really cool nine year old girl who was more into dancing than gross-out jokes. no, that's not your head exploding, that's your brain dancing] and I hung out with my friends Satu and Osa from Habbo Hotel who are Finnish (that means they are from Finland not that they are done with anything).

The most important thing was I got to tell a man from the company that makes dudgeons for this game that what I really wanted was my pony but I dident get one before I turned 40 and I never turned 40. He laughed and I think he dindnt understand that having a pony is important to some people mostly girls. I told him that if he wanted his game to win game of the Year he was going to have to give people ponys from the beginning because thats why the Game that won this year won the prize.

p.s. the hotel where I stayed had cinammon buns for breakfast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fred the undercover cat

by oboreruhito, concerning the matter of Kittens, Puppies

Story via AP, photos from Newsday:

NEW YORK (AP) — He came from the streets from Brooklyn, a cool customer on four legs, the perfect bait for a sting on a fake veterinarian.

Meet Fred, undercover kitten.

21852375

Authorities said on Wednesday they drafted Fred — an 8-month-old former stray adopted by a prosecutor — to pose as a would-be patient while investigating a man who allegedly treated an untold number of pets without a license.
Steven Vassall, 28, was collared last week and charged with unauthorized practice, criminal mischief, attempted petty larceny and other criminal counts, said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes. He was released on $2,500 bail. A call to Vassall's attorney was not immediately returned.

At a news conference, prosecutors introduced Fred, who sported a tiny badge on his collar as he and his owner, Carol Moran, posed for photos.

"He's pretty easygoing, a real Brooklyn guy," said Moran, one of Hynes's deputies.

Fred the tabby shared the spotlight with Burt the Boston terrier, an alleged victim of Vassall.

Burt's owner, Raymond Reid, contacted authorities after the 6-year-old dog survived a botched operation. The defendant allegedly recommended the dog should be euthanized, but Reid got Burt back — along with a bill for $985.

21852398

Burt, a Boston terrier, refuses to speak to the press during a press conference about the arrest and indictment of Steven Vassall, who allegedly posed as a veterinarian, at the District Attorney's office in Brooklyn Wednesday. Burt and his owner were victims of the alleged scam.

Gehry's titanium doghouse

by C. Fernsebner, concerning the matter of Puppies

Faithfully guarding the Guggenheim Bilbao, Jeff Koons' Puppy is 12 meters tall and changes its flowers every six months.

Koons also had a Puppy at Rockefeller Center in 2000. We are unable to determine whether this was the same Puppy or a related Puppy. Perhaps Koons had a whole litter. "First created in 1992 for a temporary exhibition in the German city of Arolson, Puppy--a symbol, according to Koons, of 'love, warmth and happiness'--was a contemporary artwork that captured Koons's sculptural imagination, horticultural dexterity, and engineering skill."
