She Enchants Us All
Sonia Romero makes wonderful woodcuts and other art. She Stirs The Rabbit Some More hangs on my sister's wall. I wish its predecessor hung on mine.

Egg apparel
Eggs In Hats: Melissa Kaplan knits little hats and sweaters for her two tortoise eggs, Sist and Uova.
Eggs In Pants: Chad Walker draws comics starring an egg who owns a pair of tapered red pants. (We do not know if it is a tortoise egg or a plain chicken egg or what. But it has these pants.)

Happy beats scary: a report from the Bazaar Bizarre
Art School Dropout had attractive necklaces and darling brooches like the one with the blue owl pictured above.
Heidi Kenney / MyPaperCrane had a bakery's worth of plush toast, doughnuts, moldy bread, milk cartons, and tampons.
Chad Walker / Devoted Bee had prints, books, pins, greeting cards (I think I like the "Dream Scores" card best: "since we met happy beats scary"), and awesomeness.
Alison Cole / Comics of Love had these nifty three-pocket wallets and this tote bag with the sweetest little ghosts on it.
Jonnie Spaceman played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and other traditional songs on the theremin.
Other Bazaar Bizarre vendors we definitely approved of: Bright Lights Little City, Magpie, and Vonica.

The Cute Manifesto
I have no idea what this book is actually about, but it is by James Kochalka and it is called The Cute Manifesto. (Via A Flow Of Information...)
Newsarama: "Another project of yours coming out soon is The Cute Manifesto, which contains a lot of your essays-in-comics form on a number of topics. What do you hope readers get out of The Cute Manifesto?"
Kochalka: "I hope it helps them to become more powerful cartoonists. I hope it helps them to become mentally healthy and strong, creative, happy people."
Okay.

Moomins

Visiting Finland recently, I learned that the premiere Finnish national cartoon export is Moomins. At times evoking Miyazaki and other Japanese art; at darker moments evoking Edward Gorey; in chapter headings evoking the exploits of Winnie the Pooh ("in which the hero valiantly such-and-so"), these solemn-looking cowlike characters and their elfin friends are worth a visit to the online home of the Moomin exhibit at the Tampere Art Museum, if you're not likely to make the trek to Tampere yourself.

I never owned very many action figures as a child... but if I had, I hope they'd be like these.
[lessig]This only goes to show you the marvelous creativity modern copyright law has the potential to squelch. [/lessig]
Apologies. Lessig is interesting, but cute he ain't. His kid, on the other hand...
